Where to Watch the Sun Set In and Around Myrtle Beach
The top 3 spots to watch a sunset on the Grand Strand:
1. Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk
Visit the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk for an unforgettable, postcard-perfect sunset! With vibrant colors and fluffy clouds stretching across the sky, you will stand speechless as the beautiful rays begin to stray from your vision.
Bring your family or a romantic partner to experience the magic with you after dinner or before a show. Locals and travelers love the Marsh Walk because it features free entertainment, a free view, and dozens of waterfront restaurants.
Murrells Inlet is known as the “Seafood Capitol of South Carolina”. Fresh seafood can be found in every restaurant on the Marsh Walk, as well as award-winning steaks, cold drinks and Low Country inspired cuisine. It hosts a variety of events like the Murrells Inlet 2020 Marsh Walk Masters, and the 4th of July Boat Parade & Fireworks Display. Each restaurant along the marsh-front boardwalk holds their own special events that include live music and dancing.
Surrounding the boardwalk are dozens of fun places to go with your honey or family. Spend a whole day with your love watching dolphins and sea turtles on one of the Marsh Walk WaterSports Tours, and see the sun set as you ride in from the ocean. If you’re interested in a true marsh-life experience, try out one of the near-shore or in-shore (family fun) fishing charters with Captain Englis Glover or Captain Shannon Currie. You could also shop til sundown at the Lazy Gator directly across from the Marsh Walk. The Lazy Gator has over 15,000 square feet of unique gifts and Christmas treasures.
Any day will be complete when it ends watching the sun set on The Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk. If you aren’t sure what time to get there, just Google, “Murrells Inlet Sunset” and you will have the exact time featured at the top of the browser.
2. Myrtle Beach Boardwalk
See the sun set like you never have before! Myrtle Beach’s Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade stretches over 1.2 miles long to give you an endless view of a beautiful, uninterrupted sunset. You can stroll along the boardwalk watching the sun descend beyond the rows of American flags, or you can try to catch it while riding Boardwalk Attractions like the SkyWheel and the Adrenaline Adventures zipline.
The SkyWheel is new to the Myrtle Beach strip. In 2011, it was placed right in the center of Ocean Boulevard. Ride over 200 feet above sea level and watch the sun go down in one of the fully enclosed gondolas. If you are taking your date on the SkyWheel, don’t worry; you will have him or her all to yourself because they only seat one group per gondola. Once you finish watching the sunset, stick around for the SkyWheel light show that begins after dusk.
If you are interested in a more traditional sunset, take a walk on the beach. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is perfect for any date no matter where you watch the sun set!
3. 2nd Ave. Pier- Pier View Open Air Bar
Nearby, the 2nd Avenue Pier is ideal for watching the sun set with your special valentine. Whether you walk along the pier or cuddle up in one of the lounge chairs at the “Open Air bar”, you are guaranteed to experience an unforgettable sunset. The 2nd Avenue Pier hosts their very own “Pier House Restaurant” where you can view the ocean from any seat inside. The 2nd Ave. Pier reopens on February 16, for the season, only two days after Valentine’s Day. Check their events schedule for a list of days, in the peak season, when they show fireworks. The pier closes at 7pm on these days, so you may have to watch the sun go down inside the restaurant or at the bar, upstairs. Show your significant someone your romantic side, and take them by the 2nd Avenue Pier for a beautiful sunset.
