The House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach

As an attraction of Barefoot Landing, the House of Blues is home to an array of colorful things, concrete and abstract, to get and maintain the attention of countless people finding their way to the building blues built.

Live music is arguably what draws most. Blues is what got this concept started, but music of all sorts are featured in a concert hall, which is mostly standing room only. B.B. King, Erykah Badu, The Roots, The White Stripes, Johnny Lang, Widespread Panic, Eric Benet and Anthony Hamilton are among the lengthy list of artists that have performed at the House of Blues.

The Gospel Brunch, held each Sunday, features a local trio called Glory. The men sing a combination of traditional gospel hymns and jazzy renditions of soul music such as “Grandma’s Hands,” originally written and recorded by Bill Withers. While they praise the beauty of God, family and friends, people enjoy a buffet with a gamut of Lowcountry and Southern cooking, including boiled shrimp, cheese grits, sausage and jambalaya.

The main restaurant menu was revamped last year by Aarón Sanchez, a celebrity chef who is a Food Network star. It now contains evidence of Sanchez’s Mexican heritage, including Street Tacos made with Cotija cheese and avocado lime crème.

Art – paintings and live theatre – are also prominent at the House of Blues. The work of folk artists, such as Richard Burnside whose oil paintings are housed at The Smithsonian, are showcased throughout the House of Blues. Art comes to life during the regular showings of Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre – the whodunit allows audience members to become a part of the storyline and action.
