Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery: A Myrtle Beach eatery with home to handcrafted brew
Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery, an eatery of the Tbonz Restaurant Group, is the place people wanting beer made with American finesse tend to prefer when visiting Myrtle Beach.
Light, dark, robust and fruity beers are among those featured to appeal to discriminating drinkers. For example, the Raspberry Wheat beer is made with more than 80 pounds of raspberries in each batch. The beer has a golden brown color and a smooth taste with the distinctive, but not overwhelming, taste of raspberries at the finish.
Large chalkboards in the bar and dining areas allow staff to post, in brightly colored chalk, the beer offerings of the day, along with their prices.
White Ale (an American ale with a Belgian wheat beer personality made with orange and coriander), other house beers and seasonal lagers offer enough variety to help ensure the options never get boring.
“We are unique to the area and stand out from other Grand Strand restaurants because we are a brewery, too,” said Dodd Smith, an assistant manager at Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery.
The huge temperature-controlled tanks, into which the beers are placed until served, are in plain sight and add to the restaurant’s ambience.
The casual dining restaurant is roomy, with patriotic touches that can be seen inside and outside of the restaurant. From the replica of the Statue of Liberty incorporated into the signage to the flag-draped replica of the same at the entrance and American flags in or near the bar area, the patriotic theme is obvious.
Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery can seat more than 300 people, with indoor and waterfront patio dining areas available. It is arguably a choice social hub, especially for locals, with friends and coworkers descending onto eatery during happy hour and beyond.
The happy hour, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily, is lively with customers taking advantage of popular finger food. Choices include Liberty chicken wings (mild, hot, extra hot, teriyaki, Thai chili or garlic parmesan for $4.95 per dozen), beer-boiled peel and eat shrimp (1/2 pound for $6.95) and Philadelphia soft pretzels (four for $4, with cheese sauce costing $1 more).
There is also a late night menu that features pizza and most of the happy hour items for about $2 to $3 higher.
Lunch and dinner menu items include margherita pizza ($10.95), pimento cheeseburger ($9.50), 8-ounce filet mignon ($21.95) and barbecue salmon ($16.95).
The beer cheese soup made with Liberty lager, cheese, onions, carrots and celery ($4.25 for a cup and $5.25 for a bowel) are among top customer picks, as well as the Cobb salad ($9.25), beer-battered colossal onion rings served with mustard made from ale ($6.95) and a full rack of baby back ribs ($17.95).
