Fun Things To Do On The Beach
One of the great things about staying at Myrtle Beach hotels on the beach is, well, having the beach right in your backyard! Because let’s face it, the shopping, the dining, the crazy-fun Myrtle Beach attractions, they’re all great, but they’re not the main reason you vacation here. You come for the beach!
And those of us who are lucky enough to live here in Myrtle Beach don’t really get tired of it either. In fact, we’re all about maximizing the fun at the beach. Here’s a list of a few of our favorite fun things to do at the beach:
1. Forget the castle, build a sand sculpture!
OK, maybe start with a sandcastle if you’d like, but we love to go big! We’ve got great sand for sand sculptures here on the Grand Strand, and believe it or not it’s not just about being a great artist. Once you learn about the basics of sand sculpture, you really might be surprised with the results you can come up with! Start by reading this information-packed article on sand sculpting, and see what you and your family can do next time you’re on the beach!
2. Play ball! Bocce, that is
This is one of our favorite beach games: bocce ball! Taken from the Italians, the game revolves around an attempt to get your team’s balls closest to the jack (or boccino), which is a smaller ball that’s tossed out first. It’s a game of finesse, and can be especially tricky on the beach, where the balls don’t tend to roll like they do on asphalt or hard-pack dirt bocce courts.
The game has become increasingly popular, and you can pick up a bocce ball set at retailers including big discount retailers like Wal-Mart and Target.
3. Hunt for shells
Myrtle Beach is a fantastic area to go shelling or look for shark teeth! Early morning is a great time to hit the beach and look for shells, as is the time shortly after a storm, as the churning sea can turn up a fresh batch of shells. Just be sure not to take anything that’s living off the beach!
4. Have a family portrait made
Beach portraits are a great family keepsake, so why not have one taken on your next Myrtle Beach vacation? There are many photographers you can meet online, and it’s easier than ever to see plenty of work samples and even be put in contact with references. Just remember to have the photo taken early in the trip and/or be very careful with your sunscreen, you don’t want to document a sunburn!
Those are just a few of the fun things that are easy to do when you’re staying at a Myrtle Beach hotel that’s right on the beach. Of course there’s also swimming, napping, relaxing, reading … the list (and the fun) goes on and on!
